Antarctica: McMurdo Station

Wright_Valley_From_Bull_Pass

Located within Victoria Land west of McMurdo Sound in Antarctica, the Dry Valleys, with their barren gravel-strewn surface, are said to closely resemble Mars’ natural setting. An Antarctic anomaly, this row of valleys was given such moniker because of their extremely low humidity and the lack of snow and ice cover. Each of the valley’s floor occasionally contains an indefinitely-frozen lake, teeming with bizarre organisms thriving underneath.  Photo credit (1, 2)
