Iguazu Falls Travel Guide

2) River or Rafting Trips

Another option is to hop on board the 40-passenger boat named the Iguazu explorer. The 210-minute trip starts at the Iguazu River’s Paraguayan border.  What makes the trip special is it includes a visit to the Moises Bertoni Museum, the former home of the Swiss Scientist who relocated to the lush forest to conduct research.

3) Flights over the Falls

They say helicopter flights are expensive, but those who have been there all say that it is worth it. While the rate is USD 4 per minute per person, helicopter rides provided by the Helisul Company will make you glad you spent it anyway.

The minimum fare is USD 40 per person for a mere 10 minutes, and once the helicopter is filled with three passengers, the pilot will take off. However, if you would like to have a bird’s eye view of the Foz do Iguazu and the Itaipu Dam, be prepared to shell out about USD 400 for four passengers. The best seat for sightseeing? The front seat, of course.

4) Moonlight Tour

If you are lucky enough to be in Iguazu during the full moon, then you must not miss the moonlight tour. It starts with a ride on a double-decker bus bound for the Porto Canoas site. Once on site, you can feast on a sumptuous dinner, and cocktails served by Argentina’s famed La Selva Restaurant. You can jive with the musicians entertaining the area as well.

After a while of merriment, the tour formally starts with a guided walk to the Naipi Site, where you can ride an elevator that brings you closer to the cascading waters. Here, you can marvel at the view of the silver rainbow that forms over the falls during full moon nights.

Where to Eat around Iguazu

While Iguazu is situated quite far from the city, you can still find several dining options for you and your spouse, family, or friends. Here are the top five restaurants around South America’s majestic waterfalls:

1) Aqua

This bistro along Puerto Iguazu is perfect for date nights, with its excellent service, split-level seats and low lights. While its wooden interiors are truly beautiful, nothing compares to its house specialties such as dorado and surubi, both local river delicacies. Of course, do not forget to cap off your freshly cooked entrée with Aqva’s signature dessert: fresh pineapple and mango with torrontes sabayon.

Address: Av. Cordoba at Carlos Thays, Puerto Iguazu, Misiones

2) La Rueda

For the best bife de chorizo in town, try La Rueda in Puerto Iguazu. Like other Iguazu restaurants, the chef makes use of fresh catches such as the Surubi. Its interiors are as fresh as its food: tree trunks for walls and a roof lined with bamboo. La Rueda opens as early as 7:30 p.m. to cater to the overwhelming demands of diners. And I’m saying it’s early because 7:30 pm is teatime as far as Argentinians are concerned.

Address: Av. Cordoba 28, Puerto Iguazu, Misiones

3) Tempero da Bahia

If Bahia is too far for your comforts, at least make it a point to visit Tempero da Bahia, a bistro famous for its façade. Here, you can sample northeastern delicacies such as moquecas (seafood stew), even panfried salmon and sole. If you want to get the best value for your money, don’t forget to drop by Tempero’s seafood buffet, held several times a week. For a full feast, you only need to spend a mere USD 18.

Address: Rua Marechal Deodoro 1228, Foz do Iguacu

4) La Mision

Hotel Amerian’s pride and glory, the La Mision Restaurant is the best place for delicious Argentinian and Italian food. The restaurant also offers vegan entrees for PETA advocates, dieters and what not. Entrees range from USD 20 to USD 33. Despite being slightly expensive, La Mision is perfect for connoisseurs because of its extensive wine list.

Address: Av. Tres Fronteras 780 y Costanera, Hotel Amerian Iguazú, Puerto Iguazu

5) La Vaca Enamorada

Another lovely place where you can enjoy tasty Argentinian breakfast and brunch is La Vaca Enamorada, along Republica Argentina. Apart from its world-class food, the thing that makes the restaurant a fan favorite amongst tourists is the welcoming service of Juan Alberto, the owner of La Vaca Enamorada.

Address: Republica Argentina 79, Puerto Iguazu

You need no more convincing.
